Cricket Enthusiasts Eagerly Await News on India’s Batting Order for Perth Test

New Delhi, 16th November 2024 – The Indian cricket team’s preparations for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy have hit a snag as uncertainty looms over their batting order for the first Test in Perth. Shubman Gill, one of the contenders for the opening position, sustained a hand injury while fielding during India’s match simulation at the WACA.

Gill, who has been batting at No. 3, was also being considered as an opening option alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, with regular opener Rohit Sharma’s availability for the first Test uncertain due to the birth of his second child. The young batter’s injury has further complicated the team’s selection dilemma.

“While the extent of Gill’s injury is yet to be confirmed, the Indian camp received some positive news as Rohit’s wife, Ritika Sajdeh, welcomed their second child on Friday. Rohit had earlier communicated to the BCCI and selectors that he might not be available for the series opener in Perth, given the timing of the birth. It remains to be seen if Rohit will now travel to Australia to be available for the first Test.”

Another opening option, KL Rahul, had also left the field during the first day of the simulation match after being struck on the elbow by a short ball. Rahul did not come out to bat later in the day, and he also missed the second day’s proceedings.

With Gill’s injury and the uncertainty around Rohit’s availability, Abhimanyu Easwaran, who is part of the squad, could be in line for a potential debut at the top of the order for India in the highly anticipated Perth Test.

The Indian team’s preparation for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which is also a crucial part of the ICC World Test Championship, has been far from ideal, with the recent 3-0 whitewash against New Zealand adding to the challenges they face. The management will be closely monitoring the fitness and availability of their key batters as they aim to bounce back strongly in the upcoming series against Australia.
