Cricket Enthusiasts Raise Concerns Over Difficult Pitches at ICC T20 World Cup
The pitches used for the opening matches of the ICC T20 World Cup in Nassau County have come under scrutiny from players and experts alike. In a statement on Thursday, the ICC acknowledged that the surfaces “have not played as consistently as we would have all wanted.“
The first two games, featuring India’s clash with Ireland, saw challenging conditions for batters. India bowled out Ireland for a mere 96 runs on pitch no. 4, with both Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant suffering blows to their bodies. Ireland’s Harry Tector was also struck on the finger by a sharp bouncer from Jasprit Bumrah.
“The pitch is bordering on dangerous,” described former cricketer and expert Andy Flower, appearing on ESPNcricinfo’s Timeout show.
The ICC has assured that the world-class grounds team is working diligently to remedy the situation and deliver the best possible surfaces for the remaining matches at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.
The venue is scheduled to host six more group games, including the highly anticipated clash between India and Pakistan on June 9. Cricket enthusiasts will be hoping for a more consistent and batter-friendly pitch for the upcoming fixtures, as the tournament aims to provide an entertaining and fair 100-ball cricket live experience.
