Hilton Moreeng Appointed as USA Women’s Head Coach
Hilton Moreeng, the former South Africa women’s head coach, has been named as the new head coach of the USA women’s cricket team. Moreeng’s appointment comes after he served in the same role for the South African team for over 11 years, during which he guided them to remarkable achievements.
Under Moreeng’s leadership, the South African women’s team reached the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup on two occasions and the T20 World Cup semi-finals twice. Notably, they also became the first national senior side to reach a World Cup final, which they achieved at the 2023 T20 World Cup held in their home country.
Speaking on his new role, Moreeng expressed his excitement to join USA Cricket and work towards building a competitive squad capable of challenging the best teams in women’s cricket globally. He aims to foster a culture of excellence and achievement within the USA Cricket program, paving the way for a successful future on the international stage.
Moreeng’s appointment comes after the tenure of former Australia international Julia Price, who served as the USA women’s head coach from 2019 to 2022 before being succeeded by Chanderpaul.
USA Cricket chairman Venu Pisike praised Moreeng’s rich background and vast experience, stating that his successes and understanding of the challenges faced by an emerging cricket nation make him well-suited for the program. Moreeng’s first assignment will be to prepare the team for the 2025 U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
