Renowned Pakistani cricketer Haris Rauf has responded to a viral video depicting a confrontation between him and a group of unidentified individuals, stating that while public figures are open to feedback, he will not hesitate to respond appropriately if his family is targeted.
The video, which has been circulating on social media, shows Rauf, accompanied by his wife, engaged in a heated exchange with the group. The footage captures Rauf rushing towards the individuals, even as one of them tries to intervene, leading to a brief scuffle and raised voices.
In a social media post, Rauf acknowledged the public’s right to support or criticize public figures like himself. However, he emphasized the importance of showing respect towards people and their families, regardless of their profession. “As public figures, we are open to receiving all kinds of feedback from the public. They are entitled to support or criticize us. Nevertheless, when it comes to my parent and my family, I will not hesitate to respond accordingly,” Rauf wrote.
The incident appears to have taken place in the United States, where Pakistan’s last group-stage match at the recent T20 World Cup was played against Ireland in Lauderhill. Despite their win, Pakistan failed to progress to the Super Eight stage of the tournament.
Rauf, a centrally contracted Pakistan cricketer, has had a notable journey this year. His contract was initially terminated in February due to his unavailability for Pakistan’s Test series against Australia late last year. However, the contract was reinstated a month later, with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) citing a “misunderstanding” as the reason for the episode.
During the T20 World Cup, Rauf was one of Pakistan’s standout performers with the ball, picking up seven wickets in four bowling innings at an impressive economy rate of 6.73. Despite their efforts, Pakistan’s campaign ended with losses to the USA (in a Super Over) and India, ultimately failing to secure a spot in the top two from their group.
