Gloucestershire Fight Back Through Singh Dale Before Tumble of Wickets
Gloucestershire put up a spirited fight on day two of their Vitality County Championship clash against Yorkshire, but the hosts maintained their advantage by claiming five late wickets at North Marine Road.
Yorkshire, who resumed the day on 348/3, were bowled out for 456, with new-ball seamer Ajeet Singh Dale claiming 3/70. Despite Gloucestershire’s impressive morning session, they still faced a daunting total to overcome.
Openers Ben Charlesworth (45) and Ollie Price (47) got the visitors off to an encouraging start, but Gloucestershire slipped from 128/2 to 158/6, with Matthew Revis (3/26) leading Yorkshire’s resurgence. The day ended with the visitors on 168/7, trailing by 288 runs.
This has been a frustrating campaign for Yorkshire, who were among the pre-season favorites but find themselves second-bottom in Division Two without a win in seven matches. The hosts, however, managed to bounce back in the final session, boosting their chances of securing a much-needed victory.
The sunshine that had bathed the opening day was replaced by cloud cover, making it a bowler’s day. Gloucestershire will need to regroup and put up a stronger performance on day three to stay in the contest.
