Glamorgan Edge Out Sussex in Thrilling One-Wicket Victory
Glamorgan maintained their perfect record in the Metro Bank One Cup, clinching a remarkable one-wicket triumph over Sussex Sharks at the Gnoll in Neath. Despite the spirited efforts of young spinners Archie Lenham and Bertie Foreman, Glamorgan ultimately managed to sneak home in a closely contested affair.
Batting Woes for Sussex
Batting first, Sussex were bowled out for 200, with Lenham and Foreman’s eighth-wicket partnership of 51 runs providing some valuable late runs. Glamorgan’s seamers, led by the miserly Timm van der Gugten and the impressive Dan Douthwaite, were the chief architects of the Sussex collapse.
Glamorgan’s Dramatic Chase
Glamorgan’s chase got off to a blistering start, with Eddie Byrom scoring a rapid 51. However, a middle-order wobble brought Sussex back into the contest, thanks to the excellent spin bowling of Lenham and Foreman. The duo combined for 20 overs, conceding just 60 runs and claiming four crucial wickets.
“As the match hung in the balance, it was the last-wicket partnership of Andy Gorvin and Jamie McIlroy that proved crucial, guiding Glamorgan to a tense one-wicket victory.”
The win keeps Glamorgan at the top of Group B with four wins from as many matches, while Sussex remain winless in this year’s competition.
