Cricket Enthusiasts Eagerly Await “Run-Fest” as England and West Indies Renew Six-Hitting Battle in St Lucia
As the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup continues, England and West Indies are set to resume their six-hitting showdown at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in St Lucia. The two sides hit a combined total of 120 sixes during their five-match T20I series in December, which West Indies won 3-2. With the pitch expected to be bat-friendly and the wind a potential factor, both teams are anticipating a high-scoring affair.
“It looks like a really good wicket, the way guys were able to hit through the line and the way the ball was travelling,” said England’s Sam Curran, who noted the flatness of the pitch and the short square boundaries during the previous games played at the venue. West Indies captain Rovman Powell echoed the sentiment, stating that the batters were “excited to come to St Lucia” as the pitch in St Lucia has traditionally been favorable for the batsmen.
However, the bowlers will also have their work cut out for them, with Curran suggesting that they may need to focus on “turning your sixes into fours” in order to limit the damage. The England squad has been practicing their range-hitting under the guidance of Kieron Pollard, who has captained the St Lucia franchise in the Caribbean Premier League.
The players are well aware of the challenges posed by the wind, which has been blowing from the east to the west at around 10mph. “We have chatted as a bowling unit: in the Caribbean, the wind’s a big factor,” Curran said, hinting at the adjustments the teams will need to make.
With England and West Indies both boasting powerful batting lineups, the stage is set for a potentially record-breaking encounter. As the teams prepare for the crucial Super Eight fixture, Cricket enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating a “run-fest” that could see the sixes flying high once again.
