England Unveil Refreshed Squads Ahead of Australia T20 and ODI Series

In a move signaling a new era, England have named five uncapped players in their squads for the upcoming T20 and ODI series against Australia next month. The selections mark the end of an era, with World Cup winners Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali left out of the teams.

The T20 squad features the Warwickshire duo of Jacob Bethell and Dan Mousley, Leicestershire seamer Josh Hull, Hampshire fast bowler John Turner, and Essex batter Jordan Cox. Turner, Bethell, and Hull, who was recently added to the England squad for the second Test against Sri Lanka, have also been included in the one-day squad.

While Joe Root is rested from the ODI squad, several of his Test teammates have been drafted in, including Gus Atkinson, Harry Brook, Matthew Potts, and Jamie Smith. Brydon Carse, who has completed a three-month suspension for placing bets on various cricket matches, also returns to the ODI setup.

The three-match T20 series, the first since Matthew Mott’s departure as head coach, kicks off on September 11 in Southampton, followed by fixtures in Cardiff and at Old Trafford. The five-match ODI series begins at Trent Bridge on September 19 and concludes at Gloucestershire’s Seat Unique Stadium on September 29. Marcus Trescothick will oversee the team in an interim capacity for both series.
