Cementing Their Spot in the Semis: England’s Dominant T20 World Cup Victory over USA
Bridgetown, June 23, 2024 – In a commanding display, England have booked their place in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2024 with a comprehensive 10-wicket win over USA in their final Super Eight match.
Chris Jordan, making a return to the England XI, etched his name in the history books as the first England player to take a men’s T20I hat-trick. Jordan’s impressive spell, which saw him claim four wickets in his final five deliveries, orchestrated the USA’s collapse from a promising 115 for 5 to a disappointing 115 all out.
“It’s a special feeling to be the first England player to take a T20I hat-trick. I’m proud of the team’s performance and our ability to secure a dominant victory.”
Adil Rashid continued his stellar campaign, recording figures of 2 for 13 from his four overs. The spin duo of Rashid and Liam Livingstone ensured the USA could only muster 25 runs in the six overs following the powerplay.
In their chase, England’s opening duo of Jos Buttler and Jason Roy made light work of the modest target, with Buttler starring with an unbeaten 83 from just 38 deliveries. Buttler’s onslaught included two sixes that cracked a solar panel, as well as a blistering assault on Harmeet Singh, scoring five maximums in one over to reach his half-century.
The emphatic victory has boosted England’s net run rate (NRR) to 1.992, putting them in a strong position to finish top of the group if West Indies can defeat South Africa in the final Super Eight fixture.
