England Bolster Squad with Promising Leicestershire Seamer Ahead of Final Sri Lanka Tests
In the wake of Mark Wood’s injury, England have called up 20-year-old Josh Hull, the talented left-arm seamer from Leicestershire, to their squad for the remaining two Tests against Sri Lanka. The towering 6ft 7in bowler, known for his ability to reach speeds of up to 90mph, will join the team ahead of the second Test at Lord’s, which begins on September 22.
Hull, who recently impressed during his England Lions debut, earning five wickets across two innings, will provide valuable depth to England’s bowling attack following Wood’s thigh injury. While Hull’s first-class record of 16 wickets at 62.75 may not be eye-catching, his potential has been evident, particularly in Leicestershire’s triumph in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup last season.
“It was about half nine last night when I got the call from Brendon McCullum,” the young seamer told BBC Radio Leicester. “It’s a very special moment, and I’m really excited to be joining the England squad. I never thought it would happen this fast, but I’m looking forward to the opportunity.”
With Olly Stone likely to step into Wood’s role for the upcoming matches, Hull’s inclusion provides additional pace options for the England management to consider. The final Test of the summer will be played at the Kia Oval from September 6-10.
