Veteran Cricketer Dwayne Bravo Announces Retirement from CPL after Ongoing Season

Chester Le Street, August 31, 2024 – Dwayne Bravo, the prolific T20 cricketer and the highest wicket-taker in the format, has announced his plans to retire from the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) after the current season. The 40-year-old, who has already won five CPL titles, is hoping to end his illustrious career with another championship trophy for his beloved Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) club.

“It’s been a great journey, and I’m looking forward to playing my final professional tournament in front of my Caribbean people,” Bravo shared on his Instagram account just hours before TKR’s opening match against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in Basseterre.

Bravo’s CPL retirement comes on the heels of his decision to step away from T20I cricket for the West Indies in 2021 and the IPL in 2023. However, he has continued to serve as the bowling coach for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League.

With five CPL titles under his belt, including three with the TKR franchise, Bravo is undoubtedly the most decorated player in the league’s history. He had previously led TKR to back-to-back championships in 2017 and 2018 before guiding the Patriots to their inaugural title in 2021.

As Bravo embarks on his final campaign in the CPL, he is determined to add one more trophy to his impressive collection and end his illustrious career on a high note with the Trinbago Knight Riders.
