Born in Lytham St Annes, Lancashire, Duckworth initially pursued a career in physics and metallurgy, but his passion for statistics eventually led him to tackle the rain-affected cricket problem. After retirement, he dedicated himself full-time to perfecting the Duckworth-Lewis method, which has since become an indispensable part of the sport.

The Duckworth-Lewis method’s success is a testament to the power of innovative thinking and the ability to solve complex problems in sports. Its impact has been far-reaching, from eliminating unfair outcomes in cricket matches to becoming the subject of an album by the band The Duckworth Lewis Method.
