Dindigul Dragons Triumph in Thrilling TNPL Final

In a captivating finale of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2024, Dindigul Dragons emerged victorious by six wickets over Lyca Kovai Kings at the Chepauk Stadium.

A collective bowling effort by the Dragons’ bowlers limited Lyca Kovai Kings, who were playing their third consecutive final, to a modest total of 129 for 7. Sandeep Warrier, Varun Chakravarthy, and P Vignesh each claimed two wickets apiece, restricting the Kings’ batters.

In response, Dindigul Dragons chased down the target with ten balls to spare, thanks to a brilliant 46-ball 52 from R Ashwin, who was batting at number three. Ashwin’s knock, which included one four and three sixes, was his third consecutive fifty in the TNPL 2024 tournament. B Indrajith’s 32-run contribution alongside Ashwin’s heroics helped the Dragons cruise to their maiden TNPL title.

“It’s an incredible feeling to win the TNPL title. The team has worked hard throughout the tournament, and this victory is a testament to their dedication and teamwork,” said Dindigul Dragons’ captain.

Earlier, after being put in to bat, Lyca Kovai Kings made a brisk start, racing to 48 for 1 in the first five overs. However, Varun Chakravarthy’s twin strikes in the final over of the powerplay brought the Kings’ innings to a halt. B Sai Sudharsan, the hero of the Qualifier 1 with an unbeaten 123, could manage only a brief stay, leaving the Kings in a precarious position at 51 for 4.

Atheeq Ur Rahman and Ram Arvindh then stitched a 36-run partnership, but their dismissal saw the Kings’ run-rate decline. Captain M Shahrukh Khan also failed to make a significant contribution, as the Kings struggled to post a challenging total.

In the run chase, the Dragons’ start was a bit jittery, with both openers being dismissed early. However, Ashwin and Indrajith’s 65-run stand for the third wicket set the platform for a comfortable victory. Sarath Kumar’s unbeaten cameo of 27 off 15 balls ensured the Dragons crossed the line with ease.

R Ashwin was named the Player of the Match for his all-round performance, while M Shahrukh Khan was awarded the series honors for his exceptional batting and bowling displays throughout the tournament.
