Midlands Rivals Complete the Double with Four-Wicket Win at Grace Road
Derbyshire, July 6th, 2024 – In a thrilling Vitality Blast North Group encounter, Derbyshire Falcons edged out their Midlands rivals Leicestershire Foxes by four wickets at Grace Road. The veteran all-rounder Samit Patel once again proved to be the difference-maker, guiding the Falcons to victory with a crucial unbeaten 67.
Leicestershire posted a competitive total of 184 for 6, thanks to Ben Cox’s explosive 61* off 30 balls and Lewis Goldsworthy’s 48 off 41 deliveries. Former Leicestershire seamer Zak Chappell was the pick of the Derbyshire bowlers, taking 3 for 42, while Patel chipped in with 2 for 27.

Despite losing three key batters early on, Derbyshire’s experienced duo of Patel and Wayne Madsen (46) steadied the ship. Although a late wobble raised some concerns, Patel’s continued onslaught proved too much for the Foxes, as Derbyshire reached their target with four balls to spare.
This victory marks the second time this Vitality Blast season that Derbyshire have completed the double over their East Midlands neighbors, boosting their hopes of securing a quarter-final berth.
