Curtly Ambrose Believes West Indies Have the Firepower to Derail England’s ‘Bazball’ Approach

Veteran fast bowler Curtly Ambrose is confident that the West Indies possess the necessary bowling arsenal to unsettle England’s aggressive “Bazball” approach during the upcoming three-match Test series. The series kicks off at Lord’s on Wednesday.

Ambrose, who terrorized English batters during his illustrious career, dismissed the “Bazball” label as nothing more than a “fancy name” for an approach that has been employed by aggressive teams in the past. “West Indies teams back in the days, Australian teams back in the day, they always had aggressive players,” he pointed out.

Despite the absence of veteran pacer Kemar Roach due to injury, the West Indies bowling line-up looks impressive on paper. Pace will come from the likes of Alzarri Joseph, Jayden Seales, and the breakout star Shamar Joseph, who wreaked havoc against Australia earlier this year. The experience of all-rounder Jason Holder further bolsters the visitors’ bowling attack.

Ambrose believes the West Indies’ chances hinge on their ability to post substantial scores. “My only concern is you have to get runs on the board. I believe if we score heavily, we have the firepower to bowl England out twice,” he said. The batting lineup, led by the experienced duo of Kraigg Brathwaite and Joshua Da Silva, will be crucial in providing a solid foundation.

The legendary fast bowler has been credited for partly contributing to Shamar Joseph’s rapid rise, though Ambrose is quick to downplay his role. “What I learned about him is he is willing to learn,” Ambrose said, adding that other coaches have also worked with the young pacer. “Maybe my presence gave him a little bit more inspiration but I can’t take any credit for what he did in Australia.”

With a potent bowling attack and the determination to score heavily, the West Indies are well-equipped to challenge England’s much-discussed “Bazball” approach this summer.
