Cricket Veteran Salahuddin Aims for Lasting Impact in Bangladesh’s Short-Term Setup
Dhaka, November 11, 2024 – Cricket coach Mohammad Salahuddin is determined to leave a lasting impression on Bangladesh’s national team during his short-term stint as the senior assistant coach. Salahuddin, who has built an impressive coaching resume in the domestic circuit, including four Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) titles with Comilla Victorians, has returned to the national setup for the second time, this time until the upcoming Champions Trophy.
Salahuddin, who previously served as an assistant coach from 2006 to 2010, is eager to utilize his expertise to help the team and believes that even a “minimum impact” could be worthwhile. “If I can have even a minimum impact, it will be worth it, despite how much time I have till the Champions Trophy,” he said.
Instilling Confidence and Improving Communication
The experienced coach highlighted his goal of instilling more confidence in the players and improving their communication with the foreign coaching staff, led by interim head coach Phil Simmons. “I just hope our boys get a bit more confident. I will also keep an eye on their communication with the foreign coaches,” Salahuddin added.
Salahuddin’s appointment comes after a change in the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) leadership, with Faruque Ahmed taking over as the new president. The new administration’s commitment to involving Bangladeshi coaching talent in the national setup played a crucial role in Salahuddin’s return.
Developing Bangladesh’s Cricketers
The cricket veteran, who has been instrumental in the development of several Bangladesh cricketers, including Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal, during his previous stint, is eager to have a positive influence on the current generation of players. “Please don’t be quick to label someone as a hero or a villain. When a player joins [the national team], they go through many processes and perform consistently to get into the team. They struggle a lot,” he cautioned the media.
With the Bangladesh team set to travel to the Caribbean for the ICC World Test Championship match against the West Indies, Salahuddin will have the opportunity to put his coaching expertise to the test and make a lasting impact during his short-term tenure.
