Resilient Bryce Sisters Propel The Blaze to Convincing Victory Over Sunrisers

    The Blaze 140 for 2 (K Bryce 57*, S Bryce 54*) beat Sunrisers 137 for 7 (Scrivens 42) by eight wickets

In a dominant display, The Blaze secured their eighth consecutive victory in the Charlotte Edwards Cup, coasting past Sunrisers at Lord’s. The star of the show was the prolific Kathryn Bryce, who continued her impressive form with an unbeaten 57 off just 37 deliveries.

Bryce, the tournament’s leading run-scorer, registered her fourth half-century in six games, sharing a crucial 100-run third-wicket partnership with her younger sister Sarah. The Scotland international duo maintained their side’s perfect record in the group stage, guiding The Blaze to a comfortable win with 29 balls to spare.

Earlier, Sunrisers captain Grace Scrivens top-scored with 42 from 38 balls as the home side posted 137 for 7. However, the result all but mathematically ends Sunrisers’ slim hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals.

“Scrivens got Sunrisers off to a brisk start, cracking two boundaries in the opening over. Mady Villiers and Lissy MacLeod also contributed useful cameos, but Sunrisers struggled to maintain the momentum during the middle overs. The dismissals of Scrivens and MacLeod proved pivotal, as Jo Gardner and Jodi Grewcock’s 35-run partnership came too late to propel the hosts to a competitive total.”

The Blaze’s chase got off to a shaky start when Jodi Grewcock removed Tammy Beaumont for a duck. However, Kathryn Bryce and Sarah Bryce steadied the ship with a measured 100-run stand, ensuring their side was always ahead of the required rate.

Kathryn Bryce brought up her half-century from just 33 balls, while Sarah Bryce found her rhythm, dispatching two sixes in as many deliveries off Eva Gray. The younger Bryce sister then applied the finishing touches, guiding her team to victory with a boundary off Amu Surenkumar.

The Blaze’s comprehensive win leaves Sunrisers’ hopes of a semi-final berth all but over, underscoring the dominance of the Bryce sisters and their team’s unrelenting form in the Charlotte Edwards Cup.
