Beach Cricket Club Shines as Fast Bowler Beth Langston Leads Northern Diamonds to Four-Wicket Victory Over Sunrisers

In a thrilling encounter at the Chester le Street Cricket Ground, the Northern Diamonds continued their impressive run in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy with a gripping four-wicket win over the Sunrisers. The star of the show was six-time England fast bowler Beth Langston, who made a dream return from injury with a sensational bowling performance.

Langston, who had been sidelined since July 2022 due to a ruptured ACL and subsequent complications, was determined to make an impact in her comeback match. The 31-year-old did just that, registering stunning figures of 6 for 24 as the Sunrisers were bowled out for a meagre 109 inside 31 overs.

“Electing to bowl first on a muggy and tricky pitch at the Chester le Street Cricket Club, the Diamonds captain Hollie Armitage saw her decision vindicated by the seamers, led by the inspired Langston.”

The fast bowler’s devastating spells, which included four wickets in her initial six-over burst, set the tone for the home side’s victory.

Despite a nervy start to their chase, with the Diamonds slipping to 32 for 4, an unbeaten 35 from Australian overseas Erin Burns ensured the hosts reached their target with 25.2 overs to spare. The win propelled the Diamonds into second place in the table, all but securing their semi-final berth with five games still to play.

For the Sunrisers, it was a disappointing outing, as they lost their third game of the season. However, they remain well-placed in the top four of the competition.

The Chester le Street Cricket Club once again proved to be a challenging venue for the visiting Sunrisers, as the home side’s bowlers, led by the returning Langston, showcased their skill and resilience to set up a crucial victory.
