Ben Stokes Commends England’s Progress Under Buttler and Mott
Ben Stokes, the England Test captain, has commended the team’s recent performances under the leadership of captain Jos Buttler and coach Matthew Mott. Despite not being the holders of a global white-ball title for the first time in five years, Stokes believes the team is progressing, and their semi-final finish in the 100-ball cricket live event was a commendable achievement.
Stokes, who was the man of the match when England lifted the 50-over World Cup in 2019 and played a crucial role in their T20 final success two years ago in Australia, came out of one-day international retirement to represent the team in the recent 50-over World Cup defense. However, he skipped the latest T20 World Cup as part of his rehabilitation from knee surgery.
The England team faced a challenging start to the 100-ball cricket live event, with their opening match against Scotland being abandoned due to rain. They then suffered a heavy defeat against Australia, putting them on the brink of elimination. However, they bounced back with convincing wins over Oman and Namibia, along with Australia’s tight defeat of Scotland, securing their place in the Super 8s.
“Despite the semi-final exit, Stokes believes the team is progressing under the leadership of Buttler and Mott.”
The team’s successes over West Indies and USA, interspersed with a loss to South Africa, propelled them to the semi-finals. Unfortunately, they were outclassed by India, bowled out for only 103 in pursuit of 172 on a low, turning pitch.
Despite the semi-final exit, Stokes believes the team is progressing under the leadership of Buttler and Mott. He acknowledged that England’s only victory over another team that plays Test cricket was against the West Indies, with their other three wins coming against teams outside of international cricket’s elite.
