Cricket Enthusiast Nafees Iqbal Hospitalized After Brain Hemorrhage
Former Bangladesh batter Nafees Iqbal, who recently served as the team’s logistical manager during the T20 World Cup, has been hospitalized in Dhaka after suffering a brain hemorrhage. Nafees, who is the elder brother of renowned cricketer Tamim Iqbal, was airlifted to the capital city from Chattogram on Friday afternoon and is currently under close observation in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
According to the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) chief physician, Debashis Chowdhury, Nafees is suffering from cerebral venous thrombosis, a condition characterized by blood clots in a specific part of the brain. While his current condition is stable, with his vital parameters being normal, he will require a few weeks to fully recover.
Optimism for Full Recovery
Chowdhury stated that Nafees will be closely monitored on the first day and might be shifted to a regular ward soon, provided his condition does not deteriorate. The medical experts have expressed optimism about Nafees making a full recovery, though the process may take some time.
Support from Cricket Community
Several prominent figures from the BCB, including director Jalal Yunus and chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury, as well as players like Mahmudullah, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Mashrafe Mortaza, have visited Nafees in the hospital to show their support.
Nafees Iqbal’s Cricket Career
Nafees Iqbal, who has been the Bangladesh team manager for the past two years, is also the nephew of Akram Khan, the former Bangladesh captain and current BCB director. As a cricketer, Nafees played 11 Tests and 16 ODIs for the national team between 2003 and 2006, and is considered a first-class stalwart for Chattogram, having appeared in 120 matches for the division.
The news of Nafees Iqbal’s hospitalization due to a brain hemorrhage has understandably caused concern within the Bangladeshi cricket community. The BCB and the medical team are closely monitoring his progress, and the cricket enthusiasts are hopeful for his speedy recovery.
