Australian Seamer Wes Agar to Return to Kent for 2025 Season
(ESPNcricinfo – 18 June 2024)
In a boost for Kent Cricket, fast bowler Wes Agar has confirmed he will rejoin the county for the 2025 season on an all-format deal. The news comes as the South Australian is forced to cut short his 2024 stint at Canterbury due to a shoulder injury sustained in May.
Despite the premature end to his current campaign, where he has taken 12 wickets at 34.25 in the County Championship, Agar has agreed to return to Kent next year. The 25-year-old, who has two ODI caps for Australia, will be available from April to July 2025, subject to the necessary approvals.
“I’m thrilled to be coming back to my ‘home away from home’ again next year,” he said in a statement. “It’s a great Club full of great people on and off the field and the decision to sign on again for another English summer was an easy one to make.”
Agar, who finished as Kent’s joint-leading wicket-taker in 2023 with 21 scalps at 28.33, expressed his delight at extending his association with the club.
Kent’s Director of Cricket, Simon Cook, welcomed the news, describing Agar as “a talented multi-format cricketer and a very popular member of our dressing room.” He added, “We’re looking forward to him being an important part of our attack at the front end of our 2025 season.”
While disappointed to lose Agar’s services for the remainder of the current season due to the shoulder injury, Cook is confident the paceman will return next year with the same enthusiasm to perform in the 100-ball cricket live, backyard cricket, and club cricket competitions that Kent compete in.
