Australian Wicketkeeper Josh Inglis to Lead ODI and T20I Teams Against Pakistan
Cricket Australia Announces Captaincy Changes
On November 6th, 2024, Cricket Australia announced that wicketkeeper Josh Inglis will lead the Australian team in the third ODI against Pakistan in Perth and the upcoming three-match T20I series. The decision comes as regular captain Pat Cummins, along with Steven Smith, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and Marnus Labuschagne, are being rested to finalize preparations for the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
Inglis Takes Over Captaincy Duties
Inglis, 29, will become the 14th T20I captain and 30th ODI captain for Australia, taking over the reins from the unavailable Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head. Marsh, the permanent T20I captain, and Head, who led the side in a recent absence, are both unavailable due to paternity leave and Test preparations.
“Josh is an integral member of the ODI and T20I teams and a highly respected player on and off the field. He has led Australia A [Prime Minister’s XI] previously and will bring strong tactical nous and a positive approach to the role.”

Experienced and Talented Squad Support
Inglis, who served as the vice-captain of the Perth Scorchers in the recent Big Bash League season, will receive support from experienced players like Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis, as well as younger talents such as Matt Short and Adam Zampa.
Squad Additions and Coaching Changes
The Australian squad for the third ODI against Pakistan in Perth has been bolstered by the additions of Xavier Bartlett, Spencer Johnson, and Josh Philippe, while Lance Morris remains with the group as cover for Hazlewood.
The T20I series against Pakistan will see a different coaching staff, with head coach Andrew McDonald, batting coach Michael Di Venuto, and bowling coach Daniel Vettori taking a short break. Assistant coach Andre Borovec will lead the team, with former Australia batter Brad Hodge and wicketkeeper Matthew Wade joining as assistants.
The focus on player rotation and the inclusion of fresh faces in the squads highlight Australia’s commitment to preparing for the upcoming Test series against India, while also providing opportunities for the next generation of cricket talents.
