Australia Suffer Humiliating Loss Against Pakistan in Second ODI
In a shocking display, world champions Australia suffered one of their heaviest defeats in ODI history, losing by nine wickets to Pakistan at the Adelaide Oval on Friday. Despite a spirited performance from spinner Adam Zampa, the home team was thoroughly outplayed in all departments.
Batting first, Australia were bundled out for a paltry 163, with their middle-order collapsing. Zampa’s late-order heroics helped the Aussies avoid an even more embarrassing total. In response, Pakistan openers Saim Ayub (82) and Abdullah Shafique (64)* put on a 137-run stand, guiding the visitors to a comprehensive victory with 141 balls to spare.
“Wasn’t one of our best days,” admitted Australia captain Pat Cummins. “We’ve been pretty good of late, but today was right up there with one of our worst, unfortunately.”
It was the first time since 1992 that Australia had lost a home ODI by such a massive margin. Zampa, however, provided one of the highlights of the match, cleverly convincing Pakistan wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan to review a not-out decision, only for the decision to be upheld.
The result gives Pakistan a golden opportunity to win the three-match series, with several key Aussie players, including Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Steve Smith, set to miss the final game in Perth to prepare for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India.
