Archie Vaughan Earns First England Under-19 Call-Up

Archie Vaughan, the son of former England captain Michael Vaughan, has earned his first call-up to the country’s under-19 squad. The 18-year-old batter has been included in a 14-man squad that will play two Test matches against Sri Lanka, starting next week at Wormsley.

Vaughan will join 16-year-old Rocky Flintoff, the son of ex-England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff, who is already part of the squad for the ongoing one-day series against Sri Lanka, currently level at 1-1.

“Last month, Vaughan and Flintoff were on opposing teams, playing for a Young Lions Invitational XI and England Under-19s, respectively. In the 50-over match, Vaughan scored 85 runs off 83 deliveries for the Invitational XI, who were bowled out for 288, before Flintoff’s unbeaten 106 guided the England side to a two-wicket victory.”

Somerset’s Vaughan signed a two-year contract at Taunton in May, while Flintoff agreed professional terms with Lancashire in June. Flintoff, who has been playing alongside his 18-year-old brother Corey at Old Trafford, also made a century for Lancashire’s 2nd XI against Warwickshire at Edgbaston in April.
