Alyssa Healy Rejoins Sydney Sixers for WBBL Clash Against Melbourne Stars
In a major boost for the Sydney Sixers, Australia captain Alyssa Healy has recovered from her T20 World Cup-ending injury and will be available for Friday’s Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) match against the Melbourne Stars at North Sydney Oval.
Healy, who ruptured the plantar fascia in her right foot during the T20 World Cup match against Pakistan in Dubai, was forced to miss the team’s final group game and semi-final, where Australia were ultimately eliminated. However, the experienced wicketkeeper-batswoman has now been cleared to take the field against the Stars, where she will come up against her Australia teammate Meg Lanning.
“It was a really hard decision to make last night as to whether or not we’re going to give it a punt or not,” Healy said. “I ruptured my plantar fascia – completely ruptured one and partially ruptured the other. So it was just a matter of function and pain and what I could handle, and, ultimately, I probably only had one game in me, and probably took the wrong risk.”
The Sixers have made a solid start to their WBBL campaign, opening with an impressive victory over the Melbourne Renegades where 15-year-old Caoimhe Bray hit the winning runs after a blistering 81 off 38 balls from Ellyse Perry. Scotland’s Sarah Bryce has also been in impressive form, scoring a match-winning 36 not out against the Renegades and a 62 off 44 balls against the defending champion Adelaide Strikers.
However, the team will be missing the services of New Zealand allrounder Amelia Kerr, who is doubtful for the entire competition after sustaining an injury in India.
As the Sixers prepare to face the Stars, the return of their captain Alyssa Healy will undoubtedly provide a significant boost to their chances of success. Cricket enthusiasts can look forward to an exciting clash between two of the sport’s biggest stars, Healy and Lanning, as the WBBL action continues.
