Afghanistan Stun Bangladesh to Knock Out Australia in Thrilling T20 World Cup Clash

In a dramatic turn of events during the Super Eight stage, Afghanistan secured a nail-biting victory against Bangladesh, ultimately knocking out defending champions Australia from the T20 World Cup 2024. The four semi-finalists have now been confirmed, with Group 2 toppers South Africa set to take on Afghanistan in the first semi-final, while Group 1 leaders India will face England in the second semi-final.

    Semi-Final Schedules

    • The first semi-final between South Africa and Afghanistan will be played at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba on Wednesday, June 26, at 8:30 PM local time.
    • The second semi-final between India and England will be held at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Thursday, June 27, at 10:30 AM local time, which translates to 8:00 PM India time.

“While the playing conditions for the two semi-finals differ, both matches will have a total of 250 minutes of additional time available.”

    • The first semi-final will have an extra 60 minutes at the end of the day’s play and 190 minutes on the reserve day, starting from 2:00 PM local time.
    • The second semi-final, however, will have the entire 250 minutes available on the scheduled day, as there is no reserve day.

    Match Criteria

Notably, for a game to be considered complete in the semi-finals and final, both teams must bat a minimum of 10 overs per innings, as opposed to the usual 5 overs per innings during the rest of the tournament. This could be a crucial factor, as rain has been forecasted at both venues.

“In case of a washout, the team that finishes higher in their respective Super Eight groups (India and South Africa) will proceed to the final. If the final is abandoned due to weather, the two finalists will be declared joint winners.”
