Resilient Ackermann Stands Tall Amidst Steady Worcestershire Bowling Attack

    Durham 190 and 148/9 (Ackermann 40, Taylor 4-46, Smith 4-52) lead Worcestershire 112 by 226 runs

In a rain-affected second day of their Vitality County Championship clash at the Seat Unique Riverside, Durham were able to build a challenging 226-run lead, thanks to a gritty innings from Colin Ackermann. However, the visitors’ bowlers, led by the impressive Tom Taylor and Nathan Smith, kept the hosts on their toes throughout the day.

Durham resumed the day on 33/3, with Matthew Potts and Peter Siddle at the crease. Taylor’s brilliant delivery early on removed Siddle for 3, and Smith soon picked up the wicket of Potts for 18, leaving Durham 47/5.

The persistent rain caused multiple interruptions, but Ackermann and David Bedingham (17) steadied the ship for Durham. Bedingham’s dismissal, caught by Amar Virdi off Smith’s bowling, brought England captain Ben Stokes to the middle. Stokes showcased his boundary-hitting ability, striking a six off Ben Allison, but Taylor ultimately dismissed him for 26 with the final ball of the day.

Ackermann’s gritty 40 was the highlight of Durham’s innings, as he helped the hosts build a substantial lead on a challenging pitch. However, the Worcestershire bowlers, particularly Taylor (4/46) and Smith (4/52), kept the pressure on throughout the day, ensuring the match remains evenly poised heading into the third day.
