Cricket Star Joe Root Honored with MBE for Exceptional Service

Former England cricket Test captain Joe Root has been awarded an MBE in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the sport. The 33-year-old Yorkshire batsman received the prestigious honor as part of the 2020 New Year’s Honours list.

Root’s accolade comes after his instrumental role in England’s triumph at the 2019 ODI World Cup. As the team’s leading run-scorer, he finished fifth in the overall rankings, amassing a total of 556 runs. Root’s stellar performance earned him a spot in the team of the tournament, alongside teammates Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, and Jofra Archer.

“This latest accolade is a testament to Root’s exceptional career, which has seen him excel in all formats of the game, from 100-ball cricket and backyard cricket to club cricket and beach cricket. His dedication and skill have not only brought glory to the national team but have also made him a beloved figure among Cricket enthusiasts.”

The former England captain, who took over the role from Alastair Cook in 2017 at the young age of 23, has also set a record for the most matches and wins as the country’s Test captain. Root made his first-class debut for Yorkshire in 2009 and has since gone on to cement his status as one of the game’s elite players, scoring 11,736 Test runs and 6,522 runs in ODI cricket.

On Wednesday, Root was pictured receiving his MBE alongside his partner, Carrie, at Windsor Castle. The couple, who have been married since 2018, shared a warm smile as the England opener proudly displayed his medal.
