Somerset Reclaim Top Spot in South Group After Dominant Display Against Middlesex

Somerset returned to the summit of the Vitality Blast South Group with a comprehensive 9-wicket victory over struggling Middlesex at Lord’s. Riley Meredith led the charge with a devastating spell of 4-12 as the hosts were skittled out for a paltry 79, their lowest ever T20 total.

Opting to bowl first, the visitors made short work of the Middlesex lineup, with Meredith, Craig Overton, Josh Davey, and Ben Green sharing the wickets. Only a defiant 10th-wicket stand of 28 between Tom Helm and Noah Cornwell prevented an even more humiliating collapse. Cornwell top-scored with 15 for the home side.

“The bowlers really set the tone for us today, and to keep Middlesex to such a low total was a fantastic effort.” – Somerset captain, Tom Abell

In response, Tom Banton and Tom Kohler-Cadmore ensured there would be no late drama, sealing the victory with 45 balls to spare. Banton finished unbeaten on 49, while Kohler-Cadmore contributed 30 not out as Somerset coasted to their third win of the campaign.

The result sees the Cider-men reclaim pole position in the South Group, while Middlesex remain languishing at the bottom of the table. Meredith’s inspired performance with the ball set the tone for a dominant all-round display from the visitors, who showcased their credentials as one of the favorites for this year’s Vitality Blast title.
