Cricket Enthusiasts Rejoice: New Zealand Women’s Contract List Unveiled for 2024-25
New Zealand Cricket has unveiled its list of 17 centrally-contracted players for the 2024-25 season, with several notable changes from the previous year. Among the key highlights are the return of batter Lauren Down to the roster and the inclusion of wicketkeeper-batter Polly Inglis, who has received her first-ever contract offer.
Down, who has represented New Zealand in 28 ODIs and 13 T20Is, had declined the contract offer last season after being on a maternity break. However, she has now been named in the ODI squad to tour England later this month and has reclaimed her spot on the contract list.
Inglis, on the other hand, has earned her maiden central contract after an impressive performance for New Zealand A. She scored 103 runs in three one-dayers against England A at home in March, helping the hosts win the series 2-1. Inglis also had a standout domestic season, amassing 324 runs in the NZC Women’s One Day Competition, the second-highest tally.
“We’ve landed on a strong list of 17 names that we think are going to play an important part over the next 12 months. A big part of the selection process this year was looking at who could take part in the 2025 ODI World Cup,” said New Zealand Women’s head coach Ben Sawyer.
Among the departures from the 2023-24 contracted players, wicketkeeper-batter Bernadine Bezuidenhout has retired from international cricket, while batter Kate Anderson was not offered a new contract.
The 2024-25 contracting period begins on August 1, with the players having until June 17 to accept their offers. The contracted players for the upcoming season are:
