South Africa Survive Scare to Maintain 100% Record at T20 World Cup 2024

    South Africa 113/6 (Klaasen 46, Miller 29, Tanzim 3-18, Taskin 2-19) beat Bangladesh 109/7 (Hridoy 37, Maharaj 3-27, Nortje 2-17, Rabada 2-19) by 4 runs

South Africa survived a tense encounter against Bangladesh to maintain their perfect record at the T20 World Cup 2024 in New York’s Eisenhower Park. Opting to bat first, the Proteas found themselves in early trouble at 23/4 before a record fifth-wicket stand of 79 runs between Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller propelled them to 113/6.

Bangladesh’s chase got off to a shaky start as they were reduced to 50/4 after 10 overs. However, Towhid Hridoy and Mahmudullah revived the innings with a 44-run partnership for the fifth wicket, bringing them back into the game. In the end, Bangladesh fell short by 4 runs, unable to capitalize on some late blunders by South Africa.

“Keshav Maharaj, playing his first T20I in the final over, had a mixed outing, with both good and bad deliveries, but ultimately helped South Africa hold on for the victory.”

Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje also played crucial roles with the ball, contributing to the team’s success.

The win keeps South Africa’s 100% record intact, and they now move on to their final group match against Nepal in St. Vincent, where they are well-positioned to qualify for the Super 8s. Bangladesh, on the other hand, will head to the West Indies to face the Netherlands and Nepal, still with a chance to make it to the next round.
