Cricket veteran Wriddhiman Saha set to feature in Bengal’s inaugural Pro T20 league

Renowned Indian wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha will return to represent his home state of Bengal in the upcoming domestic cricket season, including participating in the inaugural Bengal Pro T20 league starting on June 11.

Saha, who had been playing for Tripura for the past two seasons, has now rejoined Bengal after expressing his discontent with comments made by a senior cricket administrator prior to the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy quarter-finals. The 39-year-old, who has played 136 first-class matches for Bengal and scored over 7,000 runs at an impressive average of 41.99, will now turn out for the Rashmi Medinipur Wizards in the new T20 competition.

“We are very happy to have Wriddhiman back in Bengal. Also, his interest in playing at the Bengal Pro T20 League will add more glamour to the League,” said Snehasish Ganguly, the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal.

Despite not being on the initial player draft list, Saha has been brought in by the Wizards as a replacement for the injured Abhimanyu Easwaran. The team will be captained by Sudip Chatterjee and also features former India U-19 pacer Ishan Porel in their lineup.

Saha, who has represented India in 40 Test matches and scored 1,353 runs at an average of 29.41, was part of the title-winning Gujarat Titans squad in the 2022 IPL season. However, his form dipped in the 2024 edition, where he managed only 136 runs in nine innings while averaging 15.11.

The Bengal Pro T20 league features a total of eight teams, with each side playing seven league-stage matches followed by the semi-finals and final on June 28 at the iconic Eden Gardens.
