Worcestershire Secure Three-Year Deal for Exciting Spinner Fateh Singh

Chester le Street, November 13, 2024 – In a significant move, Worcestershire have acquired the services of promising young spinner Fateh Singh on a three-year contract. The 20-year-old allrounder, who impressed during a loan spell at New Road last summer, joins the club after parting ways with his former county, Nottinghamshire.

The slow left-arm spinner enjoyed a standout campaign in the One-Day Cup for Worcestershire, taking 15 wickets at an average of 24.13 – the second-highest tally for the county. His career-best figures of 4/52 against Somerset were a testament to his growing prowess. Singh also made his first-class debut towards the end of the 2024 season, representing Northamptonshire on another loan stint.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to sign this contract and be back with Worcestershire long term,” said Singh. “Playing regularly and contributing with wickets as part of a young attack was very rewarding. I’m excited to be back at a club known for nurturing young talent, and I hope to follow in the footsteps of players like Jake Libby, who has thrived since joining from Nottinghamshire.”

A former England U19 international, Singh was part of the cohort that reached the final of the 2022 U19 ODI World Cup, though he featured in just two matches during the tournament. Despite having a year remaining on his Nottinghamshire contract, the club was willing to facilitate his move, recognizing the need for the youngster to further his development.

Worcestershire chief executive Ashley Giles echoed the sentiments, stating, “We’re delighted to secure Fateh’s signing, which is a crucial step as we continue to build our squad. Fateh demonstrated his potential last summer in the One Day Cup, and strengthening our spin department has been a priority.”

The move reinforces Worcestershire’s spin resources after the tragic passing of left-arm spinner Josh Baker at the start of the summer. The club had also opted not to secure the services of Amar Virdi following his release from Surrey, despite the off-spinner’s previous loan spells at the club.

With Fateh Singh’s arrival, Worcestershire are poised to bolster their spin attack as they aim to build on their impressive sixth-place finish in Division One of the County Championship last season – their highest since the two-tier structure was introduced in 2000.
