Cricket Enthusiasts Celebrate Lizelle Lee’s Consecutive Centuries in WBBL
Hobart Hurricanes’ opener Lizelle Lee has made history, becoming the first player to score centuries in back-to-back WBBL matches. Lee’s blistering performance led her team to a convincing 28-run victory over the struggling Adelaide Strikers.
Lee’s impressive innings of 103 runs off just 59 deliveries, which featured 13 fours and 4 sixes, came after her record-breaking 150 not out against the Perth Scorchers just days earlier. The South African, who recently retired from international cricket, showcased her exceptional skills, even needing to change bats after hitting a six in the second over.
The Hurricanes posted a formidable total of 191 for 2, with Nicola Carey’s unbeaten 64 off 46 balls and Elyse Villani’s 23 not out from 14 deliveries contributing to the team’s impressive score. Meanwhile, the Strikers’ chase was led by Smriti Mandhana’s fast start, but her dismissal in the eighth over dampened their hopes.
The young leg-spinner Amy Smith put the brakes on the Strikers’ innings, finishing with impressive figures of 1 for 16 from 4 overs. South African import Laura Wolvaardt’s unbeaten 63 off 40 balls was not enough to overcome the Hurricanes’ strong performance.
“With this victory, the Hobart Hurricanes have jumped to the top of the WBBL ladder, with three matches remaining before the finals. Lizelle Lee’s consecutive centuries have undoubtedly captured the attention of cricket enthusiasts, showcasing her exceptional talent and ability to perform at the highest level.”
