Australia Braces for Decider as Cummins, Smith, Hazlewood, Starc, and Labuschagne Opt Out

Australia’s soil has often been the site of nightmares for Pakistan, but ignited by fiery bowling from quick Haris Rauf, Pakistan stands on the verge of a rare series victory Down Under. After a comprehensive nine-wicket thrashing of the world champions in Adelaide, the visitors enter the series-deciding third ODI at the Optus Stadium in Perth as favorites.

Despite Pakistan’s volatility, their performance in the second ODI was nothing short of a masterclass. Their skilful pace bowling blew away Australia’s batters, and young opener Saim Ayub treated the hosts’ frontline attack with disdain. It’s hard to recall a more clinical display by a visiting team in Australia.

However, Australia will field a weakened side for the finale, as captain Pat Cummins, along with Steven Smith, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and Marnus Labuschagne, opt to start preparing for the upcoming Test series against India. Josh Inglis will make his captaincy debut, tasked with galvanizing a new-look team in conditions that will once again test their batting approach.

“Haris Rauf has been the standout performer for Pakistan, with eight wickets that have rattled the Australians. His pace and discipline, reminiscent of Test cricket, will be crucial as he bids to finish the series in style.”

For the hosts, Sean Abbott and Marcus Stoinis are likely to feature, while local talents Lance Morris and Cooper Connolly are also in the mix.

The Optus Stadium, aiming to mimic the famous conditions of the nearby WACA, is expected to provide a fast and bouncy surface, potentially suiting the visitors’ pace attack. However, the ground’s short straight boundaries could also lead to a run-fest in the white-ball format.

As the series is viewed as an entrée to the blockbuster Test summer, there is added significance for both teams ahead of the upcoming Champions Trophy in Pakistan. With Pakistan on the verge of a historic series triumph, the stage is set for a thrilling decider in Perth.
