Cricket Veteran Mushfiqur Rahim Sustains Finger Injury, Doubtful for West Indies Tour

Bangladesh’s seasoned wicket-keeper batter Mushfiqur Rahim has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing ODI series against Afghanistan in the UAE after sustaining a finger injury. According to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) statement, Rahim fractured the tip of his left index finger while keeping wickets during the series opener, which Afghanistan won by a massive 92-run margin.

“Towards the end of Afghanistan’s batting innings, Mushfiqur injured the tip of his left Index finger while keeping wickets,” team physio Delowar Hossain revealed. “An X-ray after the match has confirmed a fracture on his left Index near the DIP joint. He is under conservative management and is not available for the second and third ODIs. Further updates on his condition and expected recovery period will be provided in due course.”

Rahim’s injury comes as a major setback for Bangladesh, who are already without the services of opener Litton Das, who is recovering from a fever. In Rahim’s absence, Jaker Ali is expected to take over the wicket-keeping duties for the remainder of the Afghanistan series.

The timing of Rahim’s injury is also significant, as Bangladesh are scheduled to tour the West Indies later this month for a multi-format series comprising two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is. With the first Test against the West Indies set to commence on November 22, Rahim’s availability for the tour remains uncertain.

Rahim had retired from T20I cricket in 2022 but continues to be an integral part of Bangladesh’s Test and ODI squads. His experience and leadership will be crucial for the Tigers as they look to bounce back in the Afghanistan series and prepare for the challenging West Indies tour.
