In a highly anticipated move, the Women’s Premier League (WPL) has announced the trade of Danni Wyatt-Hodge from UP Warriorz (UPW) to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the defending champions, ahead of the league’s third season expected to commence in early 2025.

The 33-year-old English cricketer, who is the third-most capped player in T20Is globally, will continue to receive the same fee of INR 30 lakh that she had been purchased for by UPW at the last auction in December 2023. Known for her exceptional skills and competitive spirit, Wyatt-Hodge’s addition is set to strengthen RCB’s roster as they look to defend their title.

“Danielle is a game-changer and a phenomenal athlete,” RCB captain Smriti Mandhana expressed. “Her skills and competitive spirit align perfectly with our team’s vision. We are excited to welcome her to the RCB and look forward to the energy she will bring to the squad.”

With 164 T20I appearances for England, Wyatt-Hodge has amassed 2979 runs at an average of 22.91 and a strike rate of 127.85, including two centuries and 16 half-centuries. Her recent form at the T20 World Cup, where she top-scored for England with 151 runs at an average of 50.33 and a strike rate of 124.79, further solidifies her reputation as a valuable asset for any team.

Ahead of the upcoming WPL season, an auction is expected to take place, possibly in December, where teams will have the opportunity to retain and acquire players. RCB, who had a strong overseas contingent last season, including the likes of Sophie Devine, Ellyse Perry, and Nadine de Klerk, will be keen to maintain their momentum with the inclusion of Danni Wyatt-Hodge.
