Cricket Superstar Shakib Al Hasan Set for County Championship Stint with Surrey
Shakib Al Hasan, the renowned Bangladeshi all-rounder, is poised to make a cameo appearance in the County Championship Division One next month. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has reportedly issued him a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to play a four-day match for Surrey against Somerset, set to take place on September 9.
The timing of Shakib’s County stint aligns with the end of Bangladesh’s Test series in Pakistan and the start of their tour to India. After the match in Taunton, Shakib will head straight to Chennai, where Bangladesh will face India in the first Test, starting on September 19.
Surrey’s Move to Secure Shakib’s Services
Surrey’s move to secure Shakib’s services comes as they will be without their England players during that particular round of the County Championship, as it coincides with the conclusion of the ongoing Sri Lanka Test series and the commencement of the Australia white-ball series.
Charges and Assurances
Despite facing charges in connection with an alleged murder during protests in Bangladesh in early August, the BCB has stated that Shakib can continue to represent the national team, as the investigation is still in its preliminary stages. The authorities have also provided assurances that Shakib is unlikely to be arrested, allowing him to focus on his cricket commitments.
Shakib’s Recent Performances
Shakib’s recent performances have been impressive, as he played a crucial role in Bangladesh’s historic win against Pakistan in the first Test in Rawalpindi. The all-rounder is also part of the ongoing second Test against Pakistan, although the opening day’s play on Friday was washed out due to rain.
“This short-term County Championship stint with Surrey will provide Shakib with valuable game time and experience ahead of Bangladesh’s crucial tour of India, where they will face the hosts in two Test matches and three T20 Internationals.”
