Table-toppers Toppled in Low-Scoring Clash at Arundel
In a hard-fought encounter, The Blaze secured a 20-run victory over table-topping Southern Vipers in a low-scoring affair at Arundel. The result kept The Blaze’s hopes of securing a Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy knockout stage berth alive, while Vipers missed out on the chance to confirm their progression.
Batting First, The Blaze Post Challenging Total
Batting first, The Blaze posted 208 runs, with Marie Kelly’s 40 leading the way on a challenging pitch. Spinner Ava Lee celebrated her 19th birthday with a career-best four-wicket haul. Orla Prendergast (3/38) and Kathryn Bryce (2/18) were the pick of the Blaze bowlers, while Kirstie Gordon (2/26) and her fellow spinners stifled the Vipers’ chase.
Valiant Effort by Vipers Falls Short
Despite Emily Windsor’s gritty 41, the Vipers fell short, getting bowled out for 188 to hand The Blaze a hard-earned victory. The result sees The Blaze close the gap to South East Stars to just five points in the league table, while Vipers remain top, but missed out on sealing their semi-final berth.
“The Blaze showed great resilience to defend a modest total and secure a crucial win against the league leaders,” said a satisfied Blaze coach.
