Cricket Australia Announces Squad for T20 World Cup

On August 27th, Cricket Australia unveiled their 15-player squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, set to take place in the UAE after being moved from Bangladesh. The experienced all-rounder Jess Jonassen has been left out of the team, having lost her spot earlier this year during the tour of Bangladesh.

The squad features a settled combination, led by captain Alyssa Healy, as Australia aims to clinch their fourth consecutive T20 World Cup title. Darcie Brown, who has recovered from a stress fracture in her foot, has been drafted in to join the pace duo of Tayla Vlaeminck, providing extra firepower to the bowling attack.

“We’re really excited about the squad that we’ve been able to put together,” national selector Shawn Flegler said. “It’s a well-balanced squad with some really good experience and some exciting young talent as well.”

Other notable inclusions are Sophie Molineux and Grace Harris, who have recovered from rib and calf injuries, respectively, which had kept them out of the Hundred tournament in England. Phoebe Litchfield, meanwhile, will be making her maiden World Cup appearance.

Flegler expressed excitement about the well-balanced squad, highlighting the experienced leadership of Healy and Tahlia McGrath. He also praised Litchfield’s “x-factor” and the pace threat posed by Vlaeminck and Brown.

Regarding Jonassen’s omission, Flegler acknowledged her past contributions to the team and stated that the door remains open for her to force her way back into the set-up during the upcoming season, which includes an Ashes series.

The squad named for the T20 World Cup will also feature in the three-match T20I series against New Zealand next month, with the addition of allrounder Heather Graham, who will not be traveling to the UAE.
