Teenager Seals Crushing Innings Victory for Durham

    Durham 531 for 7 dec (Lees 145, McKinney 129, Turner 114*, de Leede 79) beat Nottinghamshire 229 (James 56, McCann 51, Wagner 4-68) and 285 (Haynes 69, Slater 53, Hogg 7-66) by an innings and 17 runs

In a dominant display, Durham secured a convincing Vitality County Championship victory over Nottinghamshire, thanks to a sensational seven-wicket haul from first-class debutant Daniel Hogg.

The 19-year-old Hogg, who had already claimed three second-innings wickets, dismantled the Notts’ lower order on the final day to wrap up the win by an innings and 17 runs. This performance, coupled with a maiden first-class century from Ben McKinney on day one, has provided Durham fans with a glimpse of the promising young talent emerging from their academy.

“Resuming on 212 for 6 and still trailing by 90 runs, Nottinghamshire’s objective was to see out the morning session with rain forecast for the afternoon. However, their plans were disrupted as Hogg struck early, dismissing half-centurion Lyndon Haynes for 69.”

The young seamer continued to wreak havoc, picking up his fifth wicket to leave the visitors eight down. Despite a stubborn partnership between Olly Stone and Lyndon James, Hogg was relentless, eventually removing Stone for 29 before dismissing Brett Hutton to seal the victory for the home side.

This crushing win, coupled with a maximum set of bonus points, has propelled Durham up the mid-table standings, while Nottinghamshire find themselves embroiled in a relegation battle with four matches remaining.

Both teams will be back in action on Thursday, with Durham traveling to Taunton to face Somerset, while Nottinghamshire host the runaway leaders, Surrey.
