Lancashire Break Six-Match Losing Streak with Thrilling Win Over Northamptonshire
Lancashire snapped their six-game losing run in the Metro Bank One Day Cup, clinching a nail-biting 4-run victory over Northamptonshire at Wantage Road. Youngster George Balderson’s gritty 53 and an unbeaten 44 from Josh Boyden propelled Lancashire to a competitive 240/9, before the bowlers held their nerve to defend the total.
Winning the toss, Lancashire slipped to 152/7 before Balderson and Boyden forged a crucial 65-run stand to revive the innings. Balderson struck 5 fours and a six, while Boyden provided the late impetus with two sixes. For Northamptonshire, Saif Zaib claimed 3/44 and Ben Sanderson removed the top-order early on.
“The win not only snapped Lancashire’s losing streak but also boosted their hopes of finishing higher in the Metro Bank One Day Cup points table, keeping their season alive.”
In the run chase, Justin Broad’s 63 – his maiden List A half-century – kept Northamptonshire in the hunt, adding 77 with skipper Lewis McManus. But Lancashire’s bowlers, led by the impressive Boyden (2/49), kept chipping away at the wickets. Gus Miller’s heroic 27 took the game deep, but the hosts fell agonizingly short by 4 runs.
