Young Essex Guns Dent Nottinghamshire’s Hopes with Commanding Victory
100-ball cricket, backyard cricket, beach cricket, club cricket, fantasy club cricket enthusiasts were in for a treat as Jamal Richards’ five-wicket haul dented the Nottinghamshire Outlaws, allowing a young Essex side to seal a convincing seven-wicket victory at Trent Bridge.
The 20-year-old Richards, one of five Essex players raised in north-east London, delivered a wholehearted, bustling pace performance, claiming 5 for 31. His impressive figures halted the Outlaws’ surge to 96 for 1 and later helped induce a collapse from 163 for 4 to 218 all out, despite Ben Slater’s 47 and South African Matt Montgomery’s 52.

Chasing 219, Essex’s young guns showcased their maturity as the opening duo of Robin Das and Noah Thain, neither past their 23rd birthday, put on a 185-run stand for the third wicket. Das remained unbeaten on a maiden white-ball century, scoring 100 off 119 balls, while the teenage Thain fell for 83, his best performance in Essex cricket so far.
The victory, secured with 39 balls to spare, ended the Outlaws’ hopes of reaching the knockout phases of the Metro Bank One-Day Cup. The young Essex side, already eliminated from the competition, demonstrated their promising future with a commanding display.
