Superchargers Crumble for 83 as Birmingham Phoenix Cruise to 10-Wicket Victory
In a dominating display at Edgbaston, Birmingham Phoenix thrashed Northern Superchargers by 10 wickets in The Hundred competition. The Superchargers were bowled out for a meager 83 runs, the second-lowest total in the men’s tournament, before the Phoenix chased down the target in just 7.1 overs – the fastest chase in The Hundred’s history.
Superchargers Struggle with the Bat
Winning the toss, the Superchargers decided to bat first, but their innings got off to a disastrous start. Kiwi pacer Tim Southee struck with the very first delivery, dismissing Matt Short, and later removed England Test captain Ben Stokes for a duck. Fellow seamers Adam Milne and Chris Wood also chipped in with crucial wickets, leaving the Superchargers reeling at 36/4 halfway through their innings.
“Despite a brief resistance from captain Harry Brook, the visitors were unable to recover, eventually being bowled out for 83 runs. Southee finished with impressive figures of 3/15, while Milne claimed 3/20.”
Phoenix Openers Cruise to a Comfortable Victory
In response, Birmingham Phoenix openers Ben Duckett and Moeen Ali made light work of the chase, racing to the target in just 7.1 overs. Duckett smashed 43 off 20 balls, while Moeen remained unbeaten on 37 from 21 deliveries, completing the 10-wicket victory.
The win has boosted Birmingham Phoenix’s chances of securing a top-three finish, while the Superchargers’ hopes of making the Eliminator have taken a significant hit. Player of the Match Tim Southee praised his team’s clinical performance, emphasizing the importance of starting afresh for their upcoming matches.
