Superchargers Surge Past Originals in Northern Derby
Northern Superchargers 138/4 (Sutherland 44, Litchfield 43, Filer 2-16) defeated Manchester Originals 92 (Cross 4-20) by 46 runs
Northern Superchargers secured their second win of the season in a convincing fashion, defeating Manchester Originals in the northern derby of The Hundred competition. The match was played in front of a record Headingley crowd of 11,061, as the home side opted to bat first after winning the toss.
“It was a complete team performance out there. I thought we did a really good job with the bat, coming out hard on a very good wicket, and the bowlers got the job done,” said Annabel Sutherland, the Meerkat Match Hero for the second game in a row.
Australian duo Phoebe Litchfield and Annabel Sutherland led the way for the Superchargers, scoring 43 and 44 respectively to guide their team to a respectable total of 138/4. England international Lauren Filer was the pick of the bowlers for the Originals, claiming 2/16 with some economical spells.
In the chase, the Originals initially got off to a strong start, but the Superchargers’ bowling attack soon took control. Seamer Kate Cross was the standout performer, taking 4/20 as the visitors were bundled out for just 92 runs. The Originals struggled to find any momentum, with five different Superchargers bowlers picking up wickets.
The Superchargers’ victory solidifies their position in the league table, with two wins from their opening four games. The Originals, on the other hand, will be looking to bounce back in their upcoming fixtures.
