Club Pays Tribute to Gibson’s Professionalism During “Most Difficult Period of Yorkshire’s History”
Ottis Gibson will be leaving Yorkshire at the end of the current season, the club announced on Saturday. Gibson joined the club in early 2022 on a three-year contract after his predecessor, Andrew Gale, was dismissed in the aftermath of Azeem Rafiq’s allegations of institutional racism at the club.
Yorkshire commended Gibson’s “total professionalism” during “the most difficult period of Yorkshire’s history” in their statement. While the results on the pitch have been mixed, the team sits third in Division Two of the County Championship, with five matches remaining, and is in contention for promotion.
“The club is in a strong position in the County Championship, contending for promotion to the first division, and all players and coaches remain firmly focused on that aim,” Yorkshire said. “Ottis goes with everybody’s best wishes, and everyone at the club wishes him well in his future career.”
The club has already initiated the process of recruiting a replacement for Gibson, with Darren Lehmann and Chris Silverwood reportedly linked to the role. Gibson’s successor will be confirmed “in due course.“
Gibson expressed his satisfaction with the development of the younger players and the team’s performance this season, despite the off-field challenges. “I’d like to thank all of my staff, players and the supporters that have been behind us in my time here, and I wish Yorkshire all the very best going forward,” he said.
Yorkshire’s chair, Colin Graves, praised Gibson’s work in “really difficult circumstances” and stated that he will leave the club with his “head held high,” having helped build a solid foundation for the team’s future success.
