Worcestershire Rapids End Winless Streak, Dent Leicestershire’s Quarter-Final Hopes
In a thrilling Vitality Blast encounter, the Worcestershire Rapids snapped their seven-game losing streak and dealt a blow to Leicestershire’s prospects of reaching the knockout stages, securing a convincing 16-run victory at New Road.
The Rapids, led by a brilliant innings of 63 from just 39 balls by Adam Hose, posted their highest score of the season, reaching 184 for 8. Despite impressive spells from Leicestershire spinners Lewis Goldworthy and Rehan Ahmed, Hose’s late onslaught proved to be the difference.
“Hose’s innings was a match-winning performance. He really took the game away from us in the latter stages,” lamented Leicestershire captain Ben Cox.
Leicestershire’s powerful batting lineup was quickly dismantled by the Rapids’ bowlers, with Tom Taylor and Harry Darley reducing the visitors to 28 for 5. However, a stunning 21-ball half-century from Louis Kimber, including five sixes, revived the Foxes’ hopes, and he and Cox added an 85-run partnership.
But Kimber’s dismissal for 53 marked the end of Leicestershire’s chances of a remarkable victory. Matthew Waite’s career-best Blast figures of 5 for 21 ensured that the Rapids held on for a convincing win, despite Cox’s fine 55.
The result is a significant boost for the injury-hit Rapids, who have narrowly lost several games this season, while Leicestershire’s quarter-final hopes have taken a hit, having now gone four games without a win.
