Cricket Fans Eagerly Await Clash as England Face West Indies in Test Series Opener
West Indies fast-bowling legend Curtly Ambrose has weighed in on the ongoing “Bazball” debate as England prepare to take on the Caribbean side in a three-match Test series. Ambrose, who claimed 405 wickets in his illustrious career, including 164 against England at an impressive average of just 18, believes the hosts’ aggressive approach is “nothing new.“
“This Bazball thing, I never gave it much thought, to be honest,” said the 60-year-old, who played his final Test at The Oval in 2000. “West Indies and Australian teams back in the day, they were always aggressive players. So what England are doing, by going on the attack and all that stuff, is nothing new.”
Ambrose dismissed the “fancy name” given to England’s attacking style, insisting that it has been a part of cricket for many years. “We know the English tend to play cricket a little bit different – maybe a bit slower. So all of a sudden they decide to go on the attack and create a new name. I don’t want to hear about it.“
Under the guidance of Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes, England have scored at a remarkable rate of 4.59 runs per over in the last two years, a stark contrast to the nation’s traditionally more cautious approach. However, Ambrose believes West Indies’ fearsome pace attack, featuring the likes of Shamar Joseph, Alzarri Joseph, and Jayden Seales, possesses the “firepower to bowl England out twice.“
Nevertheless, the legendary Caribbean cricketer acknowledged the importance of runs on the board, stating, “My only concern is you have to get runs on the board.“
As the two sides prepare to lock horns on Wednesday, Cricket enthusiasts eagerly await the first installment of what promises to be an enthralling Test series between England and the West Indies.
