Injury Woes for Aamer Jamal and Hasan Ali at Warwickshire
According to an ESPNcricinfo report on July 9th, 2024, Aamer Jamal’s injury-plagued stint with Warwickshire has come to an early end. The Pakistan international joined the county club in April, but his fitness struggles limited him to just three appearances across formats during his six-week spell.
Jamal made his Warwickshire debut barely 24 hours after arriving in the UK, facing Nottinghamshire. However, he managed to take just a solitary wicket in his first two County Championship appearances, with head coach Mark Robinson admitting that Jamal was “struggling for rhythm” and “not reaching the sort of pace we’d like him to.” Jamal was then sidelined with a back issue and has not played in the Championship since.
The 100-ball cricket live action was also limited for Jamal, as he was restricted to a single Blast outing. In that game, he bowled a single wicketless over that cost 25 runs and was dismissed for a first-ball duck.
Warwickshire’s director of cricket, Gavin Larsen, expressed disappointment over the situation, saying, “Aamir has worked incredibly hard with our medical and strength and conditioning team, but unfortunately, we’ve run out of time to get him back on the field and bowling at full pace… I know he’s very disappointed not to have demonstrated his capabilities to the Bears fans.“
Jamal’s compatriot, Hasan Ali, has also struggled with an injury while on loan at Warwickshire, not featuring in the Blast since June 14 due to an elbow problem. He is expected to remain with the club until the end of July.
Warwickshire’s seam-bowling options have been limited throughout the season, with several key players spending extended periods on the sidelines. However, the club has bolstered their resources for the future, announcing the signing of former England Under-19 seamer Ethan Bamber from Middlesex, who will join the team at the end of the season.
