South East Stars Cruise to Comfortable 82-Run Victory Over Thunder
South East Stars put on an impressive display with both bat and ball to secure an emphatic 82-run triumph over Thunder in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy clash at Blackpool.
Openers Bryony Smith (67) and Kira Scholfield (56) led the way with well-crafted half-centuries as South East Stars posted a commanding total of 283 runs. Despite the heroics of Kate Cross, the world’s top-ranked seamer, the visitors proved too strong with the bat.
In response, Thunder were bowled out for 201, falling well short of their 50-over target. Ryana MacDonald-Gay was the star with the ball, claiming four crucial wickets to derail the home side’s chase.
The victory marks South East Stars’ fifth win in eight group games, cementing their position in the upper echelons of the table. Meanwhile, Thunder’s underwhelming campaign continues, with just two wins to their name so far.
South East Stars’ Batting Dominance
South East Stars’ top-order laid the foundation for their impressive total, with Smith and Scholfield sharing an 82-run partnership. Smith, in particular, looked in fine touch, negotiating a testing spell from the formidable Cross before accelerating with a stylish 67 off 71 balls.
Scholfield’s elegant 56 off 50 deliveries further solidified the visitors’ strong position, and despite a late flurry of wickets, South East Stars managed to reach 283 all out from their allotted 49.4 overs.
Thunder’s Struggles in the Chase
In response, Thunder’s chase got off to the worst possible start, with opener Emma Lamb falling for a duck in the opening over. The home side struggled to gain momentum, with MacDonald-Gay’s four-wicket haul proving instrumental in restricting them to 201 all out.
